A Warm and Welcoming First Impression
December 5, 2024

The first snow of the season in Rhode Island didn’t stand a chance against the excitement for this big day! Bundled-up community supporters showed up in droves, bringing a warmth and energy that perfectly matched the vibrant new Center for Early Childhood Development (CECD) at Meeting Street School in Providence, RI.

Walking through the doors of the CECD, I was instantly struck by the bright atmosphere and thoughtful design of the space. It was like stepping into a place where hope and possibility greet you at every corner. And to top it off, the youngest students proudly greeted every guest with high-fives and their biggest, most contagious smiles, adding an extra layer of warmth and joy to the experience.

A Joyful Exploration

As we toured the center, I couldn’t help but admire the incredible attention to detail in every room. The journey began as we peered into the infant room, a cozy, dimly lit sanctuary perfect for the youngest learners. It was peaceful and comforting—a haven that made me wish I could grab a warm blanket and join in on the coziness!

Next, we moved on to the early childhood classrooms. Each space seemed designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and connection. But what impressed me most wasn’t just the innovative resources; it was the clear intention behind them. Every detail reflected a commitment to ensuring all children—regardless of their abilities—feel empowered and included.

As we wandered through the halls, our guides couldn’t wait to show off the staff break room—and for good reason! This calm retreat is a space where the hardworking teachers and support staff can regroup, recharge, and sip their coffee in peace. (Every superhero deserves a cape and a break, right?) Knowing that Meeting Street prioritizes the well-being of their team was the cherry on top of an already inspiring visit.

The Sweetest Highlight: A Playground of Possibilities

Our final stop on the tour was pure magic and the most impactful for me as it was a project the Lawson Charitable Foundation proudly supports: the brand-new fully accessible playground. This playground isn’t just a place to play—it is a hub of joy, laughter, and inclusion. Seeing this haven where children of all abilities can explore and enjoy just being a kid was nothing short of inspiring.

Playgrounds like this remind us of why we do what we do. They’re not just about activities and slides—they’re about creating opportunities and providing resource and equipment necessary for every child to grow, dream, and connect. Seeing this vision of inclusivity brought to life was a powerful moment, and it reaffirmed our belief in the importance of supporting organizations like Meeting Street.

Celebrating Community

Beyond the incredible design and programs, one of the most heartwarming parts of the day was reconnecting with longtime friends and community supporters. The snow couldn’t dampen the sense of camaraderie and shared passion for creating brighter futures. It was inspiring to see so many familiar faces—people who have been steadfast champions of Meeting Street’s mission—coming together to celebrate this incredible milestone.
