The Lawson Charitable Foundation was created in 2021 by Cathy and Tom Lawson. The mission of the Foundation is to help those that are working hard to help themselves and others.
VOA’s Cabin in the Woods
The Lawson Charitable Foundation played a key role in helping Joe transition from homelessness to homeownership. By supporting VOA’s Cabin in the Woods, we helped create a
safe place for Joe to rebuild his life after his discharge from the Army. During this challenging period, the shift from active military service to civilian life felt uncertain. However, thanks to this support, Joe found stability and a renewed sense of purpose.
With housing and essential services in place, Joe was able to refocus his life. Over time, he became a model resident, a leader in his community, and even the go-to grill meister for neighborhood barbecues. More importantly, he offered a kind ear to others, always exuding warmth and care.
After spending a few years at Cabin in the Woods, Joe took the next big step—reclaiming his independence as a homeowner. He credits much of his success to the housing and support he received during his time of need. This incredible transformation was made possible through the generosity of the Lawson Charitable Foundation and others who believe in giving our veterans the support they deserve.
“We believe that those who have sacrificed so much through their service in the U.S. Armed Forces deserve to live their civilian lives with respect, dignity, and the resources they need to thrive.
Thank you for your service, Joe!”
